FISHING AT THE PARK

Yesterday we got Jed, Ben, and the worm for a couple of days. Ben is off each day to EFY up at Weber and we take him over and pick him up at the days end. Jed was excited as we were taking him fishing. Glenn next door told us of a pond where the kids can fish so we went out there today. He did not catch a fish but had fun. Grandma and I watched the worm and tried to keep him out of the water. He was playing with a bottle of water we brought with us and that kept him busy. It was a nice park out in Syracuse. BLIND MAN'S BLUFF

Well last week I went under the knife and the Dr. removed my cataract and took away my glasses for a month. Yup..can't use my glasses for the next month. I am on "auto pilot" and flying blind for the future days ahead. I do have a pair of old glasses and they took the lens out of one side and I can use them to drive. I can see things to drive, but they are not sharply in focus. Old age is no fun, but it does beat the alternative!! See you in a month or so (literally speaking).

CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE

This past week we spent in Laguna Beach. The place where we have gone as a family for many, many years. I reflected that it was 70 years ago this month that I first visited Laguna with Aunt Alean and my brother Earle. What changes have taken place since those first years. Even since we began taking our children on vacation to that beautiful spot. Jana and Rod rented a beach house and invited us to tag along and it was a wonderful week. Both because of being in Laguna but also being with our family that we do not get to see very often.

While in Laguna Karen and I celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary. Jana and Rod were off to Legoland and Disneyland and we just walked the bluffs and sat and soaked in the beautiful sights. We had dinner and enjoyed ourselves.



The day after our arrival we went to church in Laguna and then drove over to the LDS Newport temple. The picture above is at the temple grounds. After a good dinner we walked on the bluffs and watched the waves and swimmers.

We had a full day (8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.) at Disneyland. What changes have been made there since we first started going. The rides are more "Thrill" rides and the kids had a great time. Many years while at Disneyland I got stuck saving benches so they would all have a place to watch the Electric Parade at night. I swore I would never save another bench. So just to show I was a good sport I had this picture taken showing my saving our special bench.


As I said the rides at Disneyland have changed a lot. Take a good long look at this picture as you will never see me on this thing again as long as you or I live! I now have dubbed the place "DIZZYLAND". That is Karen in the front and me in the near back of the thing. Take a good look now!

Now we are home and tomorrow I celebrate my 74th birthday followed the next day with eye surgery.

What a great grandson! Beautiful baby and we are so proud of him. A new baby in the family is very special and I even forget my own aches and troubles when I look at him.

GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDPATENTS

Yesterday we got word that our first great grandchild was born in Mesa, Arizona. Little Jack Cameron Ferrin was born to Cecia and Cameron Ferrin early yesterday morning. For many years we have answered folks question "How many great grandchildren do your have?" with the answer "All of them are great and we are certainly GREAT grandparents!!! Well yesterday we can truly tell them we are great grandparents to one little "Monkey" ( i.e. all our grandchildren are monkeys).

Well today I woke up and began to consider all my aches and pains and the total ageing process that is taking place with me. Yesterday I went to make the arrangements for my cateract surgery next month. I started to ponder upon my arthritis, macular degeneration, plumbing problems, diabetes, and then the topper I realized fully that .....I AM A GREAT GRANDFATHER!!! What you may ask was my reaction to all this pondering.?........

Every afternoon when Grandma Bob puts the worm down for his nap they pass Grandma Kate's picture and he has to say, "Nite Nite Gramma Kate". Today we took him with us to the cemetery to clean up the graves for memorial day. When we got there we explained that this is where Grandma Kate was sleeping. He was a very big help in cleaning the graves and watering the headstones to wash them off. As we left there was a farewell "Nite Nite Gramma Kate"!!

Today's question, "What not to give a 2 year old?". The answer: Chocolate ice cream without a ten foot tarp on the floor, a raincoat, and a lot of patience and humor. The worm has learned what ice cream is all about. So have we! Love the Worm!!
